On 07 September, JLI partner I-DAIR will host a side event during the 76th UN General Assembly. I-DAIR will present its vision and work and then convene a transdisciplinary panel to discuss innovative ways to build digital research infrastructure, promote research collaboration in Digital Health and AI and develop capacities in that field in particular in LICS and LMICS. President of the 76 th UNGA, H.E. Abdulla Shahid, will address the event and the UNSG Tech Envoy, Amandeep Singh Gill, will also share his vision of accelerating the SDGs by empowering researchers and innovators to use data and AI. The event is co-sponsored by Singapore and Switzerland. JLI’s Director of Health Diplomacy, Dr Christoph Benn will chair the event as I-DAIR’s inaugural Board Chair.

Digital technologies have created enormous wealth and transformed our lives with new tools and services. Yet, at the same time, their inequitable distribution and uneven implementation have created a growing divide between those who meaningfully benefit from digital progress and those who do not. A particularly serious divide is in the area of knowledge-making – who creates digital content, services and insights from data. Low and Lower-Middle-Income Countries and small States of all income levels risk getting left behind from knowledge and value creation through data and artificial intelligence (AI).
